• Vent System – a vent is necessary to equalize pressure while the pump is operating, and to provide an outlet for sewer gasses. 
• Check Valve – a check valve is a critical part of the system. It is responsible for making sure nothing drains back into the basin after the wastewater is pumped out.   
• Gate Valve – the gate valve is another back flow preventing mechanism installed above the check valve. It is Indiana plumbing code to have this extra mechanism in place to guard against sewage back flow.
• Floating Trigger – as wastewater rises in the basin, a moveable float in the sewage ejector pump rises as well. When the float reaches the trigger point, it turns the ejector pump on. The pump will then move the waste to the main sewer. As the waste is removed, the float drops, and the pump turns back off.
• High Water Alarm – this is a sensor in the sewage pit, that will alarm if the water level comes in contact with it. This will let you know your sewage ejector pump is not functioning, and will alert you to the problem before you risk having sewage leaking out of a pit. If you hear this alarm, immediately call a plumber. 
• Sealed Pit – a professional installation includes a sealed pit lid. This is important, because a tight seal keeps sewage odors from seeping out.
